Random "Unique Hits" Values.

I’m not really sure why this is happening but I just recently reinstalled mint and since then, my unique hits value has been acting kind of strange. Take a look at this screen shot, you’ll see what I mean.. http://edwardscherf.com/drop/mint.png

Even when you add up the unique hits by the hour ( 11 total ), it doesn’t add up to any number displayed around different parts of the panel.

Is this a bug or something of my doing? Or my database maybe?

You’re hourly uniques won’t add up to your daily uniques which won’t add up to your weekly uniques, etc. since mint uses cookies that expire for the day, week, month, etc. For example, you may have a visitor on your site in the morning, and the same one in the evening, which would count for only 1 unique hit in the day, but would show a unique hit in the two corresponding hour slots also. They might also visit the next day which would only count for one unique hit that week, but each day would have its own unique.

Since you just installed, I’m not sure why the totals for the week/day/month don’t add up. They should be the same, if I’m not mistaken.

I think reinstalled is the key word there.

Shaun has said before that mint won’t differentiate between a pre-reinstall cookie and and a post reinstall cookie.

Someone could have visited your site before the reinstall and been cookied. You then wipe the db of them but the cookie still exists so when they come back they will only be unique for that time frame, not from start, etc etc

Thanks guys, that makes sense. So it looks like there isn’t really a work around for this. I guess I’ll just have to hope my stats are relatively accurate in the future.
