Mint on different domain in conjunction with failover solution

Hoi!

Not sure, can or may I install Mint on a different domain/server, but track the original one?

I am trying to setup a failover solution for a site. Therefore I run two servers with the same site. Site is serverd from server1, if server1 dies DNS changes and directs to server2. But if I install Mint twice I’ll get trouble with stats (database). So I thought of installing it on a different (third) server/domain – more or less “outsourcing” it. Can I do this? Has that to be a subdomain of the minted domain or can this also be a totally differnt one?

Or does someone know a better solution?

Thanks in advance, Hank

I have already read the FAQs. So does this mean that, if I install mint on another domain, I have to transfer the license to that domain, but can track the other (my original) one? In short, the license depends on where it is installed, but not on what is tracked. Am I right? Thanks

Yes.

I’m trying to do something similar (moving mint to another subdomain, actually). I got it moved, everything seems to be working, but when I try to transfer the license to the new subdomain, it refuses, telling me I have to uninstall mint from the old domain first… Except I already did :(

Which domain are you having trouble with? jh.info or t.n.be?

t.n.be… I moved from /mint to mint.n.be, and it’s telling me to delete mint from t.n.be before it’ll transfer the license to mint.n.be.

The moved install is working great, it just won’t check for updates because it thinks I don’t have a license for that install. It would prob’ly be best to transfer the license to the primary domain, rather than a subdomain.

It’s probably because your old /mint/ directory redirects to mint.n.be. The licensing server follows redirects so it looks like Mint hasn’t been uninstalled from its original location.

I have released the domain for transfer so you should be able to transfer the license now.

Thanks :)

Do you have ‘observe’ links next to all our posts in the forum?

That’s odd. I set up a redirect initially, but once I got my embedded js changed I removed the redirect. Does the licensing server cache the results?

Yes. I can see everyone’s total licenses, ?observe and #Mint:Debug links for each licensed domain and a mailto: for the licensed email address in case the conversation needs to continue in private. It simplifies support a great deal. Here’s hoping my 100+ license customers never have a problem! ;)

Does the licensing server cache the results?

Nope. I can visit the original url in a browser and it still redirects to the new location so the redirect is either still in effect or cached at another level.

Alright. Now it’s really fixed. I guess I had the redirect set up in two places, and only removed it from the first. Thanks for all your help :)
