How is Referrer Defined?

Posted on Oct 16, '09 at 04:54 am

If a first-time user is referred to my site from a back link on site X and then returns the following hour or day, is that visit credited to the original referring site (as is the case with Google Analytics) or is it treated as a direct visit?

A referrer is the url of a page that refers to the page on your site as provided by the browser. Referrers and total visits/unique visitors are two completely independent metrics. See also.
